What is Kanal?

Also called: Kanals

A land unit in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh. 1 kanal is 20 marla, or 5,445 sq ft, and 8 kanal make an acre.

How it works and what to check

Larger houses and farmhouses in the north-west are often described as one kanal or two kanal. Revenue records use kanal and marla, so the jamabandi or fard will show the area this way.

Tripura uses a local unit also called kanal that is not the same size; the site treats that one as a varying local unit.
