The everyday north Indian word for a square yard. One gaj is 9 square feet, and plots in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan are often quoted in gaj.
How it works and what to check
A 100 gaj plot is 900 sq ft, a 200 gaj plot 1,800 sq ft. Plots in residential colonies around Delhi and in much of north and west India are bought and sold in gaj, while flats are quoted in square feet.
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh also quote plots in square yards. In land records, the same plot may appear in square metres, so convert before you compare.
