The register of land holdings, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, listing each landholder's account (khata) with the khasra numbers and area it includes.
How it works and what to check
A khatauni extract shows the khata number, the holders and their shares, and the khasra numbers and area in the holding. It is the main record checked before buying land in UP, and copies are available online.
In Punjab and Haryana the word refers to the cultivation account within the jamabandi.
