What is Registration fee?

Also called: Registration charges

The fee paid to the registration department to register a deed, on top of stamp duty. Each state sets it, often as a percentage of value, sometimes with a cap.

How it works and what to check

Many states charge around 1% of the property value, some cap the fee at a fixed sum, and some charge differently for women or for certain deeds. It is paid with the stamp duty before the appointment at the sub-registrar's office.

Budget for it separately from stamp duty, and check the state's registration department for the current rate.
