What is Repo rate?

Also called: Policy repo rate, RBI repo rate

The rate at which the Reserve Bank of India lends short-term money to banks. It is the main policy rate, and most new floating home loans are linked to it.

How it works and what to check

The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee reviews the repo rate at its meetings. A cut or rise flows into repo-linked home loans at their next reset.

For the current rate, check the RBI's website; this page does not quote one because it changes.

Common questions

How does the repo rate affect my home loan?

If your loan is repo-linked, the rate changes at the next reset after an RBI change, and your tenure or EMI is adjusted.

Where can I find the current repo rate?

On the Reserve Bank of India's website.
