What is Chitta?

Also called: Patta chitta, Chitta extract

A Tamil Nadu village land record listing ownership, extent and classification of land in a village, such as wet (nanjai) or dry (punjai) land. It is now issued online with patta.

How it works and what to check

Chitta was maintained by the village administrative officer. Since Tamil Nadu put revenue records online, patta and chitta are usually obtained together as one extract.

Check that the owner, survey number and extent match the seller's deed.
