Also called: Maintenance, Society charges, Monthly maintenance
The monthly or quarterly charge an owner pays the society, association or builder for running common areas: security, cleaning, lifts, power for common areas and repairs.
How it works and what to check
Charges are usually per square foot or a flat sum per unit, and include contributions such as sinking or repair funds. In rentals, who pays maintenance, owner or tenant, should be written into the agreement.
Before buying a resale home, get a no-dues letter; arrears can be claimed from the flat.

Who pays maintenance, owner or tenant?
Whoever the rent agreement says. If it is silent, the owner remains liable to the society.
Is GST charged on maintenance?
It can be, depending on the amount per member and the association's turnover. Check the bill.
